Being a mom is one of the best things that ever happened to myself and my husband. Through this phase of motherhood, i have learned so much about life and even myself. Learning to love a little human who is not capable of fending for themselves or even understanding much about what is going on. I remember before we had her, people would give so much advice or thoughts to help out but trust me, nothing can quite prepare you for the journey of motherhood.
Parenthood is an experience on its own no matter how many baby products you have or baby books you read. It stems from diaper changes, to sleep training, tears, playfulness, waking up in the middle of the night, going through the phases with them, teething, breastfeeding, it’s unbelievable. As a first time mom, you tend to get so many baby products that you see online or people recommend to you, only to find out you do not need some while others are very important. There are a few baby products i got that i believe were so helpful in the journey of a first-time mom and i would love to share them with you. While preparing for her arrival, i searched the internet and found several recommendations for baby products and these lists were very helpful. One important thing, however, is that everyone has their own opinions about every item, some things might have been useless to me but be a blessing to another family and vice versa. I have tried to link some of them to their websites.
Baby Products I loved as a first time mom
This was probably the best baby product investment ever! My daughter loved this rock and play so much and would fall asleep once she was put into it. She would not sleep for hours in her crib or bassinet but once she was in this rock and play, she could sleep up to 4 hours without interruption. It helped me get some rest and a lot of work done.
I think its essential to have a baby carrier of some form as a new mother. There is so much to get done in so little time and it’s even harder with a baby. I used this carrier and loved the fact that my baby fits snuggly into it and is safe. I was able to do some cooking, cleaning etc while she slept or just felt safe on me. This particular carrier can be used from babyhood to toddler phase, in fact, i still use it for her now. It is able to do this due to the flip up & down head support it has. I had The LILLEbaby Complete original baby carrier. It has Six Carrying Positions, hood, two pockets, lumbar support, neck support, 2-way straps. It also was not difficult to put on, although the first time i used it, to be honest, i did not like it, i didn’t know how to make it fit properly and so she was not snug in it. Eventually, i watched a video, read the manual and fell in love!
For me, this is an essential baby product and still is. While searching several people did not seem to think it was necessary as you could also use the top of the closet or find things to work. Another reason was the extra space a changing table takes up. However, i tend to love the convenience and being that it was the first child i wanted a smooth transition. I also found a dresser that had a changing table on top of it so this made my decision easier. I have a changing pad i put on top of it to support her while changing.
I have the Phillips AVENT steam baby bottle sterilizer. It is very easy to use and takes about 6 minutes to sterilize and turns itself off which is great because i tend to forget about it once i turn it on. It can take about 6 bottles and also has a top layer for you to throw in pacifiers, utensils and bottle accessories.
I am so in love with baby monitors. I cannot imagine having transitioned her to her own room without one of these. As mothers, we would often hear the tiniest sound even the breath sounds of our babies lol. But i love being able to stare at her through the camera while she sleeps. I had the Levana video monitor, it also has 3 lullabies although i have never used them for her before.
We used these for my daughter and one thing i loved about them was the fact that they were long. Right from the beginning, my husband was a better swaddler than i was. For the life of me, i could not swaddle her properly no matter how many times i watched how to do it. Sometimes i got it right but it would go loose fast. However, i loved that these were very long as it helped my lack of swaddle technique lol. Not to mention they are very soft and pretty. I was able to use them as stroller covers, blanket, car seat covers, diaper pads, burp cloths and even now i use some for pictures
Noone loves seeing their babies in pain or uncomfortable. Sometimes they get clogged up and they cannot get it out themselves. Having the nose frida has been so helpful. I must say, my daughter hates it and cries everytime she sees it coming towards her, I and hubby have to hold her down and then use it. I hate seeing her cry over it but i know she will feel much better afterwards.
I am not sure if one can survive breastfeeding without a nursing pillow. Nursing on its own is super hard. I received a free one via a coupon which turned out to be so small and uncomfortable. My sister inlaw gifted me with another once called the boppy nursing pillow that was so much better.
Car seat cover
I had my daughter in winter so having a car seat cover was very useful especially when it was very windy or snowing or the weather was just unfavorably and we have to take her out of the car.
Not everyone thinks this is useful but it was for me and i still use it until this day. Right now i use it to read her bedtime stories or just cuddle with her. The glider i got is able to glide and swivel gently. Sometimes my daughter even sits on it and rocks herself.
Ahhh, bottle warmers are amazing, now i know you can run it under hot water and warm it up as well, however, i love my bottle warmer.
These are the monthly baby cards used to take their monthly pictures. I enjoyed taking her pictures every month with these.
Gosh, baby poop really stinks! Actually, i take that back, it was not so bad till she started eating solid food and it all went crazy from there. The diaper pail is a room scent saver. Using it, we do not have to empty it every single day, i typically empty it every 3 days and it leaves little to no smell. Once in a while though, it does smell a bit more before 3 days. I also love that it has a foot pedal to open it so i do not have to touch the lid when disposing of the diaper.
What do you think? were some of these baby products useless to you as a first-time mom? What were your favorite baby products and why? I would love to hear your thoughts!
Watch out for upcoming posts about baby products that were not useful for me and also baby products I would love to have for my future babies.
