Did you know that your diet can affect your medications? If you are on certain medications, you need to be aware of what your diet is and what things you may need to avoid with the medications.
Speak with your pharmacist or doctor on your medications and the types of diet you are on to avoid any complications.
For instance, some people are on Grapefruit diets to lose weight. Basically they consume pretty much only Grapefruit or Grapefruit juice for a couple of weeks. While this may seem to be a good plan to them, they may be taking certain medications like cholesterol medication, antidepressant medications and blood pressure medications. With these medications, you will need to take caution consuming Grapefruit, thus speak to your health care professional about it. Don’t drastically change the amount or suddenly add it to your diet without speaking to them.
Another popular one is eating a lot of leafy vegetables, this is definitely great, however a whole lot of Vitamin K affects medications like Warfarin which is a blood thinner. Vitamin K helps your blood clot and works against warfarin. The more vitamin K-rich foods you eat, the lower the levels of warfarin in your body thus less warfarin means you are more likely to have a blood clot.
Also know what medications you cannot drink alcohol with.
Basically when on medications like these, try to keep your diet the consistent instead of making any major changes.
