Fueling yourself before, during and after working out is very essential. It could make or break your workout depending on what you choose to do.
I usually eat some healthy carb right before my workout to give me the necessary energy to fuel my muscles to workout. Some of the things I usually eat include bananas, whole wheat bread and peanut butter. I also have my PE Science pre workout drink about 30minutes to my workout to add to my pump, I try to eat light pre-workout to avoid getting stuffed up and uncomfortable. I also do a light warm up that consists of 15minutes of cardio on my weight lifting days.
I do not usually consume anything during workout besides water and my PE Science Amino IV drink for performance and recovery. I just make sure I stay well hydrated throughout my workout. Although some people do eat during workouts. If i was training for a race and running over 5 miles then i will definitely plan something to eat during the workout.
For post workout I usually take a protein shake. Our muscles need protein to repair them thus you need a protein source like whey protein powder. Whey protein is great for post workout because it is fast digesting. Sometimes when I want to give myself a treat or after an intense session, I take a simple carb snack like a small dessert to give myself that quick energy after working out. Gatorade is an option after but my stomach doesn’t do too well with it so I avoid it. After most workouts I get some stretch in to avoid injury and reduce soreness.
I usually listen to the music from the gym although on days I really want to be intense with my workout I love to listen to Nigerian songs and upbeat Gospel songs.
I try to switch up my workout every month but once in a while I throw in a new routine to spice things up. My workout is split into upper body and lower body days with some lower body days comprising of running. Once in a blue moon I implement some yoga, I really am not a yoga fan unfortunately.
That being said, I also recently just found out about the ETB supplements and plan to try them. You can find them here http://www.etbfit.com/pre-workout-energy/ I am particularly interested in Uncaged pre-workout powder since I believe strongly in getting that pump for weight lifting days. I love supplements that have some extra flavor as opposed to the usual bland taste which i can hardly swallow
Whatever you do, you need to have fun doing it. Do you love running, start running, love dancing? Take up Zumba classes. Whatever it is, find what makes you happy and what will keep you motivated. This will help you stay motivated and committed to reach your goals.
