Happy 2018! Although, a new year does not necessarily mean anything changes. But there is something about a feeling of freshness and letting go of the past with a new year. Especially when you have had a crazy year, a new year brings some hope. A new year could signify a new beginning. Goal setting is important when trying to make changes in life. When you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. When you set goals, you need to write them down with a pen, do not just think it in your head, write it down!
Believe it or not, one reason i love the new year is being able to use a new planner lol. I am so in love with planners, i would go into stores to look for planners or go crazy when i find one online. Currently, i use the Happy planner and have been using it for like 3 years now. Here are some 2018 goals i plan to work towards this year and i think they will be great for you to check out.
Goals to set in 2018
Prayer is such a huge part of my life. Honestly, i fell off the wagon earlier in 2017 and got so bogged down with life. But i cannot even stress its importance. We all go through so much in life and being able to pray and commit them to God takes the stress away. There are so many promises from God when we pray. Prayer connects us to him and helps us to know his heart and plans for us. I remember the last Sunday morning service of 2017, while worship was going on, i just started to play back the entire year. It could only have been God that brought us through 2017. As Christians, we are called to pray just like Jesus prayed.
Read 12 books
To achieve this, i plan to read one book a month. Sometimes that seems doable but it also seems hard. You know how hard it can be to pick up a book and just sit down to read quietly? The only time i really get to hide and read a book is usually right when i am about to sleep. Thankfully, there are audiobook options now but i am old school. Yes, i do audiobooks, but when its a book i want to dig into, i have to read and make my markings on it. I love to have hard copies of books especially Christian books, there is just something about holding the book in my hands.
The family is so important to me and they come first before anything or anyone else. In this day and age, it’s so easy to keep putting off spending quality time with those you care about. We all get so busy with life to the point that we miss out. Someone put it very nicely when he said “Adulthood is always sending texts to each other saying “we should see each other soon” but never following through till one of you eventually dies. It was funny but also very true. Especially when i think back to how many people i owe visits or phone calls or texts. I plan to make it a priority this year to spend time with family and friends. Its also important to show love to those who cannot pay you back, here is a post of ideas.
Marriage is so important to me and everyday i pray for my marriage to show what God ordained marriage to be. I want my marriage to draw people to a Christian marriage rather than push people away from the thought of it. In order to do this, we have to make a conscious effort to give it the time it deserves. Recently, we started a Monday movie night, we decide on a movie and sit quietly to watch, no phones or anything. This year i really want to have one date night outside the house a month together. God has placed us together to achieve purpose together. I love this article on Focus on the family about secrets to a great marriage in the new year.
So far we try to do two trips each year. This past year we went to Spain and Costa Rica. I love traveling especially to new places outside the United States. It does not even have to be outside the country, but traveling has so many benefits. It gives you a sense of freedom and freshness. Especially as a wife and mother, i feel like my job is 24/7, so being able to leave everything is important to me. Check out my post on going out more often.
I would really love to win souls for Christ by being intentional about ministering the gospel of Christ to others. We have been saved not just for ourselves but for others, to share about the love of Christ. Evangelizing does not have to be walking on the streets all the time, it can be as simple as showing love to others and letting them know God loves them. I am passionate about seeing people come to Christ and the realization of their purpose in him. This year i really want to go out of my comfort zone to make this happen.
I truly believe in having an extra source of income outside of 9-5. If not for anything else, but for the extra satisfaction, it brings. Don’t know about you, but my job sometimes drives me to the wall and my blog and fitness hustle are what i look forward to letting go of the stress. The satisfaction i get from helping people on their fitness journey or blogging and empowering people. On the plus side, the extra income from a side hustle can be a real blessing.
Say No and own it
Yes, i plan to do just this. Saying No to others is very hard and often times, people think you are selfish because you have chosen to say no. This year i want to do more of telling people i will think about it rather than say Yes and feel outstretched. By giving myself time to think about it, i can be truthful about whether or not i can do what you want. I mean how many times have you said no and ended up not being able to deliver? So many times for me. Plus i also do not think i need to explain my reason for saying no, although i end up doing this, so i need to stop this too.
Personal development courses
It’s important to not just be in one place and be comfortable. Keep learning and improving yourself. I plan to do a lot more of personal development courses on myself. Change is a constant thing in life, so to become comfortable in one spot will only keep you from growing and achieving your purpose.
Put ME first
This goes in line with saying NO more often. By putting myself first, i can learn to love myself to the fullest, spend more time on myself and achieve more. This year i really want to spend time glamming myself up more and ME time will help with that. If i do not put myself first, then who will? You are the only person that can truly love yourself the most. I plan to schedule my time out, block out times to read, work, exercise etc.
Pursue my purpose
I wrote a post about this here. I believe anything outside of the purpose of God is a life wasted. He created us for a purpose not just to occupy space. He created us to walk with him and use our purpose for the benefit of others. Of what use will it be to end our lives and no one benefited from the purpose he created you for? Of what use is it to accumulate all the wealth and fame but not have achieved God’s purpose in your life? Life is so full of many opportunities to use your purpose to be a blessing to others, i want to live a life of purpose and full of passion. I do not want to have any regrets at the end.
I would love my kids to be able to speak Spanish fluently. In order to do this, one of us would need to at least have some amount of Spanish knowledge so they can practice with us lol. One of my goals to set in 2018 is to learn how to make basic conversation so i can speak it with them. Being fluent in more than one language is fast becoming a necessity of life. There are several jobs i have seen online that have this requirement. Plus it also helps when on vacation to be able to speak a little rather than struggle through with English. It also makes them more open to entertaining you.
One huge goal in 2018 is to give more to people especially those who cannot return the favor or gift. I am truly blessed with so many things i have prayed for but there are people who do not even have a place to sleep in this cold winter weather. So this year, one of my prayer points is for God to place people in my heart that i may not otherwise notice so i can be a blessing to them. We are blessed so that we can bless other people with what the Lord has given to us. We cannot be so excited in life when there are people we can help out with one thing or the other. Sometimes it could just be by spending more time with someone. It does not always have to be monetary
Glam time for me this year, i started taking more time out to work on my makeup skills. Those who know me know i am not one for makeup. Recently i went to Sephora and had a 45-minute session to see what makeups to get and loved it lol. Although the green lipstick was a bit too bold for me, hey i took a chance with it.
Make more memories
Take more pictures and create more memories for yourself and your family. You do not even have to be on a trip to take good pictures, it can be at home while hanging out. I am trying to learn how to use my camera better to help with these memories.
Those are some of the goals i have for this year, 2018 what are some of yours?
