Hey, lovelies, it has been a long minute, life has been so busy especially with my marathon training. My training, to be honest, has not been going as great as I planned which is normal as life always happens. From getting busy, being ill, traveling etc my schedule took a little bit of a dip but I am back at it now. My goal with this marathon is to finish it standing, I do not really care about how long it takes me.
A few things that have been helpful during this training are the following:
First, getting rid of the all or nothing mindset about finishing a certain time or not doing it at all. Initially, I was hoping to train effectively and finish in 4-5 hours but right now I am honestly not sure that will happen but I really just want to finish standing and know I set my mind to it and accomplished it. My longest run has been 12 miles, I know, I should have longer runs but like I said, I would not cancel it just because my training didn’t go as planned. Instead, I know I have to pace myself throughout to prevent injuries.
Second, I found this workout app last week called Aaptiv. Its funny I never heard of them and then I was raving to a friend about it and she said she had been using it for a while lol. I had my best run a few days ago using the Interval training on the app by Meghan T, and it was tough but amazing. I loved how she constantly pushed every step of the way. It felt like I had a running buddy with me that I had to keep up with. I went through some other workouts on the app like strength training, stretches, and elliptical and loved the fact that the trainer works you through the workouts and the music is upbeat as well. You can also select the trainers, type of workout you want, length of workout and they have different music genres too. The length of workout time for me is a biggy cause some days we may not have 45 minutes but with workouts as short as 7 minutes, you have no excuses.
Now, If you follow me on Instagram, you know I am a huge supporter of stroller workout, my daughter will be turning 2 in a few months but since her birth, I have been into stroller fitness. So of course when I saw they have stroller workouts on the app, I was sold. This app is right up my alley cause they even have maternity workouts for each trimester, I wish I knew about this when I was pregnant but no worries, next time lol.
Again, if you know me, you know pregnancy and fitness go hand in hand for me. The maternity program has workouts for every week of each trimester so if you are pregnant, you should definitely check it out. The maternity programs are taught by certified trainers in pre and postnatal fitness so don’t worry, you are in great hands. I was able to sign up and find a free trial, you can definitely get a free trial to check it out first as well. They are offering free 7-day trial right now. It’s only $9.99 a month after that and you can cancel anytime so you should give it a shot if you need some extra pump for your workouts or just looking for shorter more effective workouts.
Third, Having a great support system is huge. Right now on days, I have to run on weekends, hubby watches over our daughter and keeps her entertained while I go running. This is very helpful cause one reason I did not want to start the training in the first place was how to fit it into my schedule with our daughter since I can’t really take her with me to train lol.
What has been helping for you while marathon training? Also, let me know if you have tried the Aaptiv app and what your thoughts are!!!
