5 Ways to Enjoy Yourself in 5 Minutes or Less as a Single Mother
Being a single mother, holding down a career and cooking and cleaning for your family can be hard work, and without having some downtime to focus on yourself every once in a while even the most chill mom is bound to lose her mind. Unfortunately, a lot of people are so busy with all of their daily obligations that sometimes it’s really hard to focus on their own needs – there simply isn’t any time.
However, what if I told you that all you need to enjoy yourself properly and blow off some of that steam is just 5 minutes a day? In just 5 minutes, you can learn to really let go of all that excess stress and remind yourself of just how wonderful life can be. Here are some of the things you can do that take no time at all, and I promise that you’ll feel a lot better after doing them.
1. Listen to Your Favorite Song
Music can have a profound effect on our mood and even on our mental health. Numerous studies have shown that people who regularly listen to music are happier, more mentally stable and are even at a lower risk of certain diseases. So whenever you get the opportunity, I highly recommend that you blast one of your favorite songs full volume. It never fails to put me in a fantastic mood, especially after a hard day’s work.
2. Do Some Basic Exercises
Working out is tough, but it can also be very liberating and uplifting if you’re doing it correctly. Now I’m not saying that you should aim to burn a thousand calories with a 5 minute workout, nor is that even physically possible, but what you can do are some quick jumping jacks and pushups to quickly get your blood flowing, beef up your heart rate a bit and expend some energy, which is always good if you’re stressed. Additionally, exercising releases the feel-good hormone dopamine, so that’s definitely a plus if you want to do something that will make you feel better quickly.
It’s a common misconception that meditation sessions have to last from thirty minutes to an hour or something like that. Meditation can be done in a mere five minutes if you’re proficient at controlling your thoughts. All you have to do is take a couple of deep breaths, empty your mind of all your problems and worries and just focus on your body and how it feels. You’ll find that being introspective like this for a mere three hundred seconds can be greatly beneficial to your mood and even alleviate fatigue, so I highly recommend that you try it.
4. Hit a Punching Bag
Another fantastic way to release stress and enjoy yourself when you don’t have too much time to spare is to hit a punching bag a few times. You’d be amazed how quickly stress disappears when you have something to punch it into.
5. Have a Cold Shower
As a younger woman I used to despise cold showers, I couldn’t be in one for even one minute. Over the years, however, I realized that it was one of the best things I could do for myself during the day, especially if I haven’t had enough sleep. Like exercise, a cold shower does wonders for your blood flow and certain studies have shown that it’s great for your skin, as well. So if you have five minutes to spare, one of the best things you could do is have a quick cold shower.
